LIVING LARGE on A shoestring
A former Minnesota neighbor I hadn't seen for a long time called and said she and her husband were on their way to Miami and wondered if they could stop by the next day about noonish and say "Hello." I replied, "How about staying for lunch?" Lacking time to cook, the next morning I bought four croissant sandwiches from a wonderful French bakery, arranged a small bowl of an assortment of fresh fruit from what was in my frig and brought out a bottle of Prosecco (sometimes referred to as the poor man's champagne) I had on hand.
The adorable little plates were a gift as was the goldware. I hesitate to say that because I know not everyone is fortunate enough to receive such lovely gifts, but I promise if you go early to second hand stores, yard, garage and estate sales, you will find wonderful treasures at amazing prices. It takes patience, but patience has big rewards. The napkins are from a thrift store. Although a little larger than the centerpieces I typically use, the airy centerpiece is a plant I'm rooting in one of the crystal bud vases I bought for $1. My 20 plus-year-old outdoor furniture is from Home depot and the WalMart chair cushions are finally sporting the sun-worn look I prefer. The rug was on sale at Target for about $90 around three years ago.
